Who the heck is this random guy on the internet?
I’m a thirty-something father of two awesome kids who lives and works in the coolest small city in the world: Portland, Maine, U.S.A. It would be the perfect city if the weather was better. I hate winter. I grew up in Western Maine.
I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
I love tinkering with software.
I like traveling, but I don’t get to do it as often as I’d like to.
I’m a fan of electronic music. Some of my favorite artists are: Boards of Canada, Tycho, Ulrich Schnauss, Thievery Corporation, Supreme Beings of Leisure, and Four Tet.
I like politics, although I tend to get quite passionate about it – it’s probably bad for my blood pressure and mental health, which will likely prevent me from running for office someday. I really dig local (Maine and Portland) politics. If I had to categorize my political beliefs, I’d call it “moderately progressive.”
I like writing. When I was a kid, everyone thought I’d grow up to be a writer. Blogging and software spec writing is the closest I come to that now.
When I’m not sitting at a computer, I like to play with my kids, garden, play some guitar and bass, and do random home improvement projects. I also am a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
My ideal job is one where I can work from home, and travel a few times a year. I like working for small companies. I hate beige cubicles. I’m a Java, JRuby, Rails, and occasional Python and C++ developer by trade. Right now I’m doing independent contracting for one of the major music labels.
